Every Building Counts Report

This 2023 report was jointly produced by the Property Council of Australia and the Green Building Council of Australia to put forward policy recommendations for the property sector to help Australia achieve its decarbonisation goals.

Some of the key recommendations that have been widely reported in the media include:

  • Setting out a long-term policy strategy for climate-resilient buildings.
  • Growing the workforce and investing in skills.
  • Requiring all new residential and commercial buildings to operate on high-quality electric equipment in NCC 2025.
  • Phasing out gas in existing buildings and appliances.
  • Incentivising high-performance buildings.

While these recommendations are from an industry body, they make some valid points worth further debate and implementation.

The development and construction of high-performance buildings is a specialist sub-industry that is still immature and requires a level of policy support to reach critical mass and be self-supporting. This is no different to other industries – railroads, mining, oil & gas, tourism, and renewable energy have all enjoyed incentives at early stages of development.

While we look forward to this support, C.Street will continue voluntarily implementing our strategy to deliver high-performance, climate-resilient buildings in line with global best practice.
